"To be able to work at home successfully takes all of the following; motivation, perseverance, work, good habits, no excuses, balance, accountability, and action."
— Byron Pulsifer
For most people, the views around working from home have changed. However, this new WFH experience can be both a challenge and an opportunity.
🔅 The challenge is knowing how to be productive throughout the day with fewer distractions & less stress.
🔅 The opportunity is determining ways to improve your workflow and approach projects while still preserving the quality of your work.
Establish a routine.
Set up a dedicated workspace.
Take breaks.
Protect your time.
Stay Connected.
Establish A Routine
Organize your day to maximize working during the natural highs & lows in your energy and motivation.
Setup A Dedicated Workspace
It doesn't have to be fancy; your favorite corner spot at the kitchen table will work just fine. But, let's be honest, you don't want to feel like you're always working, even when you're not. So, the importance of having a separate workspace is vital.
Take Breaks
Schedule some downtime in your calendar. Set the alarm if need be. Take 15 minutes away from your desk to stretch, make a cup of tea/coffee, check in with family/friends. And set aside at least 30 minutes for lunch. This will help make your day more productive.
Protect Your Time
Set boundaries and stick to them. This takes practice, so don't be too hard on yourself if you work overtime. It happens to all of us.
Stay Connected
Communication becomes more critical when you work remotely. Check in with your colleagues, ask them how they are. But, don't be afraid to unplug from technology, as needed. Refer to tip#4 when you start to feel guilty.
